Bet you thought the Coraline's first bite in to her chicken looked good! This is Coraline's first dinner in the other world.
*spoiler alert*
Coraline's first dinner
In the first half of the film, the other mother cooks a grand feast for Coraline. After spying on Coraline through the little doll's eyes. the other mother cooks food that Coraline would prefer over disgusting chard. Roast chicken, peas, corn on a cob, mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli, mango juice...
I have to say this journey of making Coraline food doesn't have huge splash of flavours. Everything has quite a simple savoury taste, suitable for children!
I happened to have a pineapple in the house so I added it as a prop like how Coraline had
'We give our thanks and ask to bless our mother's golden chicken breast'

Roast chicken
I followed Jamie Oliver's way of roasting the chicken so this recipe wasn't entirely by me!
His recipe:
The way I roasted my chicken was not entirely the same way as Jamie Oliver's but I used fresh rosemary, thyme, rapeseed oil, salt and pepper as the herbs for the chicken. I liked how he recommends to slide in some butter in between the skin and breast of the chicken as well as the lemon inside!
Steam
From what I observed, Coraline's vegetables were peas, corn on a cob, potatoes and broccoli.
Here I'm using an inexpensive Russell and Hobbs steamer to steam the vegetables.
Peas 2-4 minutes
Broccoli 3-5 minutes
Corn on cobs 5 minutes
Potatoes 10-15 minutes
Alternative way to make mashed potatoes
Boil potatoes in water until soft then mash them. Personally, I steamed the potatoes because it keeps the nutrients in tact.
Optional garnish for the mash potatoes!
I topped mine with dried parsley for presentation.
Instead of bread rolls, I used baguette slices. Brushed them with rapeseed oil on one side and grilled them on medium for 5 minutes.

Total time: 2 hours
This makes 5-6 servings
Ingredients:
1 kg whole chicken
10g fresh rosemary
10g fresh thyme
2 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper
4 tbsp rapeseed oil
1 lemon
4 tbsp butter
2 medium carrots (chopped)
1 white onion (chopped)
1 bulb garlic (into cloves)
2 tbsp flour
250g white potatoes (peeled and cubed)
1 tsp dried parsley (optional)
2 tbsp butter
1/4 cup milk
4 corn on the cobs
2 cups peas
1/2 head broccoli (chopped)
12 baguette slices
rapeseed oil
Method:
Preheat the oven at 240C.
Prepare the roast chicken and gravy the Jamie Oliver way. Recipe is linked above. (mix herbs with oil, salt and pepper then rub all over the chicken. In between the skin of the breast part of the chicken, slide in some butter and some more of the herb mixture. Place a heated lemon inside the chicken's cavity. Make a few slits on the drumsticks). Roast chicken at 200C.
Steam potatoes for 15-20 minutes until you can poke holes with a fork easily. Steam peas for 4 minutes, broccoli for 3-5 minutes and corn on the cobs for 5 minutes.
Once potatoes are steamed, mash them. Mix in butter, milk and a pinch of salt. This makes your potatoes creamier.
Brush some oil on one side of the baguette slices and grill/toast for 5 minutes on medium.
